Better Homes And Gardens Christmas Walmart
I was asked if I'd like to accept a challenge. Could I redecorate an entire bathroom using a $250 Better Homes and Gardens Walmart gift card? Well, of course I can! Obviously $250 is nothing to sneeze about, but it is amazing that I was able to purchase a new shower curtain, curtain rings, window treatment, rugs, towels, lamps, wall art, soap dispensers, and trash can for that price. You definitely can stretch your dollar with Better Homes and Gardens Walmart products! Now, would this makeover have looked even more spectacular if I was able to change the light fixture, vanities, and perhaps tile the shower? Absolutely! But the beauty of this makeover is that nothing permanent was done anywhere in the bathroom—not even so much as a nail-hole in the wall! If you rent, or just aren't able to afford a large-scale makeover right now, then this post is for you! You CAN have a beautiful, updated bathroom with the help of Better Homes and Gardens Walmart items. It truly is Better for Less!
For this challenge, I decided to surprise my mom with a bathroom makeover. My mom has a lovely home, but most of the rooms haven't been updated since she built the house 16 years ago. My mom lives directly on the beach, so I wanted to give her guest bathroom a beachy vibe without making it overly "themey". Due to time constraints, I also wanted to redecorate the space without painting or DIY'ing much of anything. My mom didn't want me putting anything permanent in the bathroom, so I used 3M hooks to hang all of the art. I also made-do with all of the existing hardware and fixtures. Keep reading to glean some practical and easy tips for redecorating that do not require any power tools, spray paint cans, or paint brushes.
Tip 1: Do not be afraid to mix metals.
My mom has brass fixtures throughout her home. Instead of fighting them, I chose to work with them. I added the Better Homes and Gardens Lotion Pump in silver, the Better Homes and Gardens Wastebasket in silver, and two cute Better Homes and Gardens Dotted Mini Lamps. I also found some gold-framed prints in the attic that my mom was no longer using. All together, the mixture of gold and silver items look fantastic and fresh!
Tip 2: Use any curtain as a shower curtain.
I really wanted a solid color shower curtain for my mom's bathroom. Taking a tip from Jenna at SAS Interiors, I created slits in the top of two Better Homes and Gardens Embossed Textured 84″ Jacquard Curtains to create my own shower curtain.
You can see how great the shower curtain looks below. I didn't bother sewing the two panels together, and I think it would look cute to open the panels and create a "window look" over your bath/shower.
Tip 3: Shop the house.
I looked in my mom's attic for unused items that I could use to accessorize the bathroom. Normally, I would create a large frame for the builder grade bathroom mirror, but I didn't have time for that. Instead I found a few gold-framed prints that were no longer being used and I loved the frames. I popped out the prints and hung them on the mirror using 3M hooks. Next, I attached burlap ribbon to the frames using blue tape. The wreath and shells were also found by "shopping the house" and looked fabulous with the new bathroom colors.
Below you can see the toilet area. I purchased the silver BHG wastebasket and found the old weathervane in the attic. The cute puppy just had to make his way into the picture :).
Tip 4: Purchase new accessories.
I purchased a new jacquard valance that matched the curtains and two Better Homes and Gardens Suzani Faux Hook Medallion Rugs. The Better Homes and Gardens Egyptian Bath Towels in Butter Pecan are plush and soft. I was impressed with the quality of the towels and love how they coordinate with the rugs and curtain.
This bathroom is a Jack-and-Jill bathroom and is very difficult to photograph, but below you can see the changes that a few new accessories can make!
Thanks Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart for giving me this fun challenge! My mom loves the new look of her guest bathroom and I enjoyed putting it all together for her.
Below is a collage of the products I purchased to redecorate my mom's bathroom. Most can be found online and/or in your local stores.
